We at Camp Lochearn believe it\u2019s much tougher to develop these connections \u2013 both with others and within yourself \u2013 in just two weeks, where the outside world continues to call you back, as do family and friends from home. For everyone on the shores of Lake Fairlee, it\u2019s just you and camp, which is built around our core values: Leadership, Mentoring, Initiative and Passion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-585\" src=\"https:\/\/www.camplochearn.com\/camp-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/4-week-overnight-2-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.camplochearn.com\/camp-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/4-week-overnight-2-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.camplochearn.com\/camp-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/4-week-overnight-2-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.camplochearn.com\/camp-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/4-week-overnight-2.jpg 501w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>A two-week experience gives girls an opportunity \u2013 an excuse, even \u2013 to stay in the background and be a seer rather than a doer. We often say \u201cWe don\u2019t have invisible campers,\u201d because it\u2019s true. We know it\u2019s tough to open yourself up to others. We\u2019ve been there. It takes confidence, strength and time. We don\u2019t want to rush that growth or inhibit it in any way. Some arrive at the gates ready to conquer those 27 days, and that\u2019s wonderful. But others can\u2019t. It\u2019s not that they\u2019re incapable \u2013 we\u2019ve yet to meet anyone who arrives at Lochearn and is \u2013 but they often need someone to lead them there. There\u2019s no time limit on it.<\/p>\n<p>And it can take time to find out what makes you love camp. It\u2019s not your fault \u2013 it happens to most. You may not know how much you enjoy horseback riding, skiing, gymnastics or fine arts. Many don\u2019t discover what they love until they\u2019re old and grown, or before it\u2019s too late. The camper-counselor relationship is built on guidance and respect for everyone rather than authority. Whether it\u2019s because they\u2019ve been to camp before, or they\u2019ve taken an atypical path in life, our counselors are leaders we hope our girls aspire to be, because they\u2019ve found confidence in embracing what they love.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t want to rush what makes you YOU, and the four-week experience makes it possible.
